Home – 2018 – Work in progress

Home is a term used in Belgium to designate a retirement home. Home will be a work aimed at highlighting old age, an alternative at the dominant idea of youth contemporary cult. The point of view will not be institutional but anthropological. The purpose is to document the living conditions of different social classes, living as a separate people, isolated, on the margins of our society. Two types of population can be distinguished: the working classes that have acquired a pension and the elderly characters without income or family, automatically placed by the state.

The Home Brugmann contains three distinct pavilions:

The hotel block for elderly people still valid, the block infirmary with intensive care for people at the end of life and the famous 5th floor, autonomous block of the rest of the Home and closed on itself. It is dedicated to dementia in general and to people with Alzheimer’s disease.
